We are supporting a well-established regional public hospital in north-west Queensland seeking a Staff Specialist / SMO Paediatrician to join its team on a full-time basis. We would also be pleased to hear from VMOs or part-time paediatricians interested in contributing to the service. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a key regional referral hospital with a broad scope of practice, strong community value, and a supportive team environment. The hospital is a CSCF Level 4 Specialist Service Base , has approximately 90 beds, and serves as the major referral centre for a wide north-west catchment, supported by a network of smaller remote hospitals and health centres. The Role You will join a paediatric service that offers meaningful, hands-on medicine in a setting where your contribution is truly valued. The department provides care for children from across the region and sits within a hospital that delivers a wide mix of medical, surgical, maternity, emergency, mental health and outpatient services. Previous public job material for this service also highlights a 15-bed paediatric ward and a 4 -bed special care nursery , making it an appealing role for a general paediatrician who enjoys both inpatient and newborn work within a regional setting. About the Hospital This is not a small isolated facility, but a significant regional hospital with a genuinely important role in the health system. It has undergone redevelopment in recent years, including investment in a new Emergency Department, new Outpatients Department, Mental Health Unit and Paediatrics Unit , and it remains the principal hospital for the broader north-west region. Clinicians here benefit from broad case mix, close teamwork, and the kind of professional visibility and impact that can be hard to find in larger metropolitan systems. Hospital is located in the regional Queensland town large enough to offer the essentials people actually care about: schools, shops, cafés, sporting facilities, airport access and a strong sense of community. It is the major service centre for the north-west, with a population of around 20 ,000 , so you are not stepping into a tiny outpost. There is a real outdoors lifestyle here, with space, sunshine and easy access to fishing, camping and weekend adventures. The local airport provides regular connectivity and makes FIFO-style or flexible travel discussions far more realistic than many doctors initially expect. It is also the kind of place where doctors quickly become part of the community and where their work is both visible and appreciated. What we are looking for We would love to speak with: FRACP-qualified Paediatricians Doctors eligible for specialist registration in Australia Paediatricians interested in full-time , part-time , or VMO-style arrangements Clinicians who enjoy regional medicine, broad practice, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team Why this role stands out Some regional jobs promise “lifestyle” but offer limited clinical interest. This one offers both. You will be joining a service where paediatrics matters, where the hospital plays a genuine referral role, and where there is enough scale to keep the work interesting without losing the supportive feel that makes regional practice so rewarding. An established Adelaide private practice is looking for a Speech Pathologist to join their paediatric team on a permanent basis — and they've built the kind of role local clinicians tend to stay in. About the role: Predominantly paediatric caseload, with room to include a small adult or adolescent mix if that interests you. The practice sees children across the developmental span — early language, school-age communication, literacy, articulation, social communication, feeding, and AAC where relevant — with referrals from paediatricians, GPs, schools and NDIS coordinators across the metro area. Blend of clinic-based sessions, school visits, in-home therapy and telehealth Realistic caseload set with your clinical lead — not driven by billable-hour KPI Full admin, scheduling and billing support so your day stays clinical Structured supervision (weekly for new grads and early-career clinicians; monthly-plus for experienced SPs) Access to established assessment tools, therapy resources and a shared clinical library Well-developed local MDT referrer network — paediatricians, OTs, psychologists, dietitians and schools you'll likely already know What's on offer: Salary $80,000–$120,000 super , benchmarked to experience (graduates through senior clinicians all considered) Annual PD budget plus paid PD leave Laptop, phone, and reimbursed travel between sites Genuine flexibility — 4-day weeks, school-hours arrangements, and hybrid clinic/telehealth setups all on the table A clinical career pathway (senior, lead and specialty roles as the practice grows) Regular team case discussion, peer supervision and a real social calendar Why this role, if you're already in Adelaide: The Adelaide paediatric SP market is small enough that most clinicians know most clinics by reputation. This one has a genuinely low turnover rate, a clinical lead who invests time in supervision rather than just billing hours, and admin infrastructure that means your day is clinical work — not chasing referrals, rebooking clients or wrestling with NDIS plan management. If you've been in a role where the workload has crept, the caseload has drifted from what you signed up for, or the supervision has quietly stopped happening, this is worth a conversation. About you: AHPRA registration as a Speech Pathologist (CPSP welcome; new graduates supported) Australian work rights Genuine interest in paediatric work and family-centred practice Comfortable across assessment and intervention; interest in a specialty area (feeding, AAC, literacy, autism support) is a plus but not required A current DHS Working with Children Check (WWCC) for South Australia NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain) If you have any questions or need further details about this opportunity, please feel free to contact Anna at [email protected] • Thu, 27 Aug • Mediix | Staff Specialist in General Paediatrics Armidale NSW » Armidale, Armidale Region - The Paediatrics Department at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is entering an exciting phase of expansion and is now seeking to appoint 2 permanent fulltime Staff Specialists to join its team.
