Automotive General Manager - Regional Coastal QLD
Automotive Talent · Posted 20 days ago
About the role
General Manager - Automotive Dealership Regional QLD - Full Time - Competitive Base Performance Bonus Full Exec Package Our client is one of the most significant dealership groups in their region - a well-established, multi-franchise operation with the backing of a larger organisation behind them. They've got deep roots in the local community, a strong existing franchise performing solidly, and a growing portfolio of new and emerging brands. This is a business with real resources, genuine ambition, and a Dealer Principal who backs his people and invests in the operation. They're looking for a General Manager to take the reins on their primary franchise site - and as the group expands, extend that oversight to a second nearby sales site that'll carry several of the new brands coming on board. It's a proper growth play, and they want the right person in the chair to make it happen. The Business The primary site is an established franchise dealership with a solid team and volume consistent with the brand and the market. It has room to grow - and that's part of the brief. A second sales site, located just a short distance away, is being set up to house several additional franchises - including newer brands coming into the Australian market. This site will also fall under the GM's remit, making it a genuinely broad leadership role with real upside as the group builds out. The Role Reporting directly to the Dealer Principal, you'll own the sales function and take responsibility for the overall performance of the primary site - with a clear path to leading the group's broader sales operation. Day to day, that means: Leading the new and used vehicle sales team - setting targets, coaching performance, and holding people accountable in the right way. Owning sales results across volume, GP, and customer satisfaction - and pushing the business to where it should be. Working alongside the Dealer Principal on strategy, budgeting, and planning as the group grows. Managing the manufacturer relationship and ensuring compliance with brand standards and programs. Overseeing F&I and aftermarket to maximise gross per unit. Feeding into the rollout and performance of the second sales site as new franchises come online. Being present - on the floor, with the team. This is not a behind-the-desk GM role. Worth noting: the group has a Fixed Ops Manager who operates across the sites, so the GM role skews toward the front end. If your strength is sales leadership, you'll be well supported on the service and parts side. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is either a GSM who's hitting a ceiling and ready for a step up, or an existing GM who wants a genuine challenge in a business that's actually going somewhere. Either way, you'll need: Proven experience in automotive sales leadership - Sales Manager, GSM, or GM level in a franchised dealership. A track record of hitting and exceeding sales targets in a franchised environment. Real people leadership ability - the kind that brings a team along, not just tells them what to do. Commercial acumen - you read the numbers, understand the levers, and make decisions off data. Comfort in a regional or community-based market. Local relationships matter as much as product knowledge. An appetite for growth - this business is expanding and they need someone who's energised by that. Ideally, experience with a mainstream franchise brand. Japanese brand experience is a plus, but not a dealbreaker. The Package A competitive remuneration package commensurate with the role and the market, including a strong base retainer, structured performance bonus, company vehicle, and full executive inclusions. Relocation support is available for the right candidate. Package details will be discussed with the shortlisted candidates. The Location Regional coastal Queensland - on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef. If you already know the area, you know why people stay. If you've never been, it takes a bit of a leap to get there, and then you wonder why you didn't go sooner. You've got the reef, the ranges, and a community that actually knows your name. The cost of living stacks up well against the capitals, the lifestyle is hard to argue with, and there are plenty of worse places to build a career. How to Apply This role is being managed exclusively by Automotive Talent. Send your resume through to [email protected] or apply via the link below. All applications are treated confidentially. If you'd rather have a quiet conversation before putting your name in the mix, that's completely fine - just reach out. Shout if you've got any questions. About Automotive Talent Automotive Talent is a specialist talent acquisition agency working exclusively in the automotive industry across Australia, New Zealand, and the broader APAC region. We specialise in executive and leadership roles, working with dealerships, body shops, aftermarket businesses, OEMs, and distributors to find the right people for the roles that matter. We're not a generalist agency that dabbles in automotive. This is all we do, which means we understand the industry, speak the language, and know what good looks like on both sides of the table. Every role we work on is handled personally - no volume game, no candidate spam. If we put your name forward, it's because we reckon you're genuinely worth a conversation.
