Sales Representative » South Launceston, Launceston Area - Sales Representative | United Steel | Launceston TAS Help Build Something New United Steel has recently established a new steel processing and distribution facility at Western Junction, Launceston, and we are looking for a Sales Representative who wants to be part of its growth. This isn't simply an account management role. Our Launceston operation is growing its presence across reinforcing steel, structural steel, plate, tubular products and processed steel solutions, supported by significant investment in new processing equipment and local capability. We are looking for someone who can get out into the Tasmanian market, build relationships, uncover opportunities and help establish United Steel as a serious long-term supply partner for local industry. About the Role Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for developing and growing customers across Launceston and Northern Tasmania. There will be existing relationships to manage, but a major focus of the position is new business development. You will spend a significant amount of your time in the market meeting customers, visiting workshops and construction sites, understanding upcoming projects and identifying where United Steel can provide a better solution. Our target markets include: Structural steel fabricators Commercial and industrial builders Reinforcing contractors and concrete customers Civil and infrastructure contractors General steel and trade customers This role will suit someone who enjoys winning business rather than simply servicing it. What You'll Be Selling Our Western Junction facility gives our sales team a broad and growing range of products and processing capabilities to take to market, including: Structural steel Plate and coil RHS and tubular products Drilling, sawing and steel processing Flooring and other steel building products Reinforcing bar and mesh The facility continues to expand its processing capability, giving the successful candidate something new to take to customers as the business develops. Key Responsibilities Manage and grow existing customer accounts Identify and develop new business opportunities Build strong relationships with builders, contractors, and trade customers Conduct regular customer visits and maintain a strong presence in the market Prepare quotes and follow up sales opportunities Provide product advice and practical solutions to customers Work closely with internal sales, operations, and dispatch teams Monitor customer needs, market activity, and competitor trends Follow up enquiries and convert opportunities into sales Achieve sales targets and contribute to overall branch growth About You Steel industry experience would be valuable, but we are equally interested in someone with the drive and commercial ability to develop business. You may currently work in steel, construction, building products, engineering, manufacturing or another B2B environment where relationships and technical understanding matter. You will ideally bring: B2B sales, account management or business development experience A demonstrated ability to find and win new customers Confidence approaching new businesses and developing relationships from the ground up Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills The ability to understand customer problems and develop practical solutions Good organisation and follow-through A willingness to spend time in the market rather than behind a desk A current Australian Driver Licence Most importantly, we want someone who is curious, commercially driven and comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive. Why Join United Steel? This is an opportunity to join the business at an important stage of its development. Rather than stepping into a mature operation where everything has already been established, you will have the opportunity to help build the customer base and shape how we take our growing capability to market. You'll have: A newly established steel processing and distribution facility behind you Significant investment in local processing capability A broad product range across reinforcing, structural, plate and tubular steel Genuine opportunities to develop new customers and markets Direct access to branch leadership and operational decision-makers The ability to see the customers and business you develop translate directly into branch growth A stable full-time position based in Launceston If you are looking for a sales role where you can get into the market, win business and have a visible impact on the growth of an operation, we would like to hear from you. Apply now and join the United Steel Launceston team. United Steel is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences and identities. Prospective candidates will be required to provide proof of legal work rights and may be required to undertake relevant, role-appropriate pre-employment screening.
