The Graduate Process Engineer actively contributes to Operational Readiness, Commissioning and Operational phases of the project. They will play an active role in ensuring the organisation always works according to Alpha HPA Values as well as improving safety, environment and quality. They will utilise their Chemical Engineering skills and knowledge to do preparation tasks for operations, perform commissioning activities, and assist in production processes. Your ability to influence, collaborate and bring people with you will be just as important as your technical capability. You may be in a similar role within food manufacturing, or you may have been involved in projects in an engineering capacity. You may be a few years out of uni but have been doing something similar, or you may be a Process Improvement Engineer already. You’ll partner with Production, Maintenance, QA, Warehouse and Logistics, and Site Leadership to improve the way we manufacture our products - right from when we receive our raw products to when we move them out of our Warehouse. Our site has a mix of modern automated equipment and manual processing, supported by operators with varying levels of experience. Understanding these differences — and developing solutions that work for the people, equipment and processes involved — will be critical to your success. About Opportunity This role supports the commissioning, start-up, performance testing and initial operation of the Alkimos plant. You will work across control room monitoring and field-based troubleshooting, coordinating with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and operations teams to support a safe, efficient start-up. It suits an engineer looking to build technical, operational and leadership capability on a large-scale water infrastructure project, with genuine exposure to commissioning at a scale few projects in Australia can offer. We are seeking an experienced Lead Process Engineer to provide technical leadership across the development, engineering and implementation of advanced mineral processing technology. This is a hands-on senior role spanning process development, test work, engineering design, commissioning, ramp-up and continuous improvement . The Role Lead process development and optimisation from test work through to commercial plant operation. Translate laboratory, pilot and vendor data into practical engineering and operating requirements. Provide technical leadership through engineering design, commissioning and ramp-up. Troubleshoot process performance, recovery, reliability and product-quality issues. Work closely with engineering, operations, laboratories, vendors and technology partners. About You Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemistry or related discipline. Strong background in hydrometallurgy, chemical processing, refining or related process industries. Demonstrated experience in ion exchange/resin-based separation OR electrolysis/electrowinning/electrorefining is essential. We are looking for a Process Engineer to join our team at our Gladstone site - home to a 1.7 million tonne per year capacity clinker kiln, a quick lime kiln, two cement mills, and significant material handling infrastructure spanning stacking, reclaiming, packaging, road, rail and bulk ship-loading. Your Opportunity In this role you will: Monitor and optimise cement manufacturing processes to ensure plant and equipment operates safely within target control parameters Measure and report on critical control parameter compliance, reviewing trends and identifying opportunities to improve performance Use statistical process control to measure, understand and reduce process variability Liaise with control room personnel and provide guidance on process interventions to meet targets Investigate process upsets to determine root cause, make recommendations and drive implementation Monitor clinker, lime and cement chemistry trends and take corrective action where necessary Conduct field inspections and daily thermography scans of the kiln, calciner and cyclone tower Provide technical support and recommendations to engineering, maintenance and production teams Develop and implement process improvement initiatives and support optimisation projects Execute and report on process trials What You'll Bring High safety awareness and demonstrated commitment to safe operations Bachelor of Chemical Engineering or equivalent - essential Proven experience as a Process Engineer in the cement industry including clinker kiln process optimisation - essential Strong understanding of production processes and process technology improvement Knowledge of engineering concepts including P&IDs and technical drawings High safety awareness and demonstrated commitment to safe operations Strong communication skills - written and verbal including report writing A positive, high energy attitude with a genuine drive to deliver results Ability to build strong working relationships across all teams on site Why Join Cement Australia?
