Production Engineering Manager » Adelaide, Adelaide Region - Job Description Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte! Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point. What you'd be doing in this role This role leads Core, one of Production Engineering's two teams. You'll lead a team of software engineers who own Production Engineering's services and take on broader engineering problems that cut across multiple teams and groups. Core complements our Embedded team: where Embedded tackles targeted problems inside other parts of Canva, Core can take the strongest ideas and turn them into capability that works more broadly across the organisation. Your job is to help the team turn complex, sometimes loosely defined problems into focused engineering goals and get them delivered. You'll stay close enough to the technical work to challenge assumptions, understand trade-offs and help engineers make strong decisions, while giving them the autonomy to own the detail. Core is still taking shape. Several in flight projects have carried over from Reliability Foundations, and as those roll off through the rest of the year, you'll help define the team's next phase by setting its focus, priorities and the problems Core takes on next. You'll also help shape how initiatives are structured and measured, and turn lessons from individual pieces of work into capability with broader reach and impact across Canva. You'll also own the day-to-day health of the team: setting clear priorities, coaching engineers directly, creating psychological safety and helping their team develop organisational fluency and influence. Looking ahead, this role will help build: Reliable services at scale: Help Core's services and capabilities keep pace as Production Engineering grows and more teams come to depend on their skills and expertise. Standards worth reusing: Turn lessons from individual problems and engagements into engineering practices and capabilities that can be applied more broadly. A strong Core–Embedded loop: Build the feedback loops that let targeted learning from Embedded become reusable capability through Core. Growing engineering depth: Coach engineers to take on increasingly complex technical and cross-team problems as Core's scope grows. You’re probably a match We'd love to hear from you if you fit one or more of these. You don't need to meet all of them, but the more the better and if you join the team, we're invested in helping you grow. Experience Leading engineers: You've led software engineers through complex or ambiguous technical work and know how to coach people to grow their skills and autonomy. Production exposure: You've worked in software environments where reliability, scalability and production risk genuinely mattered. Delivery ownership: You've taken significant technical initiatives from understanding the problem through to delivery, including work spanning multiple teams. Driving adoption: You've helped teams adopt new tools, practices or ways of working, even when they were busy or already had an established approach. Engineering leadership: You can communicate technical trade-offs clearly, set direction without prescribing every decision, and create an environment where engineers can challenge ideas, learn and do their best work. Technical knowledge CS fundamentals: A strong grounding in computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading and data structures. Language depth: Enough depth in languages such as Go, Python, Java or C++ to engage meaningfully with designs, implementation choices and technical trade-offs. Systems knowledge: Strong working knowledge of system internals, networking and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP. Systems thinking: Comfortable reasoning through ambiguous problems spanning multiple components and constraints, with a strong understanding of system design, architecture and engineering patterns. Reliability engineering: Familiarity with observability, capacity, failure modes and the operational characteristics of production systems. Scale and criticality: Experience working in large-scale or high-criticality environments where reliability failures have meaningful consequences for users, systems or the business. Nice to have SRE/PE management: Prior experience leading Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering or a closely related function. Infrastructure exposure: Experience with large-scale storage, CDN, networking or distributed infrastructure. Growing technical leaders: A history of developing engineers who can coach others and take on increasingly complex work. Function-building: Experience helping shape the scope, ways of working or identity of a technical team while it was still evolving. About the Group and Team Production Engineering sits within Canva's Reliability Platform subgroup, part of the wider Infra supergroup responsible for the foundations Canva's engineering teams build on, including compute, storage, networking, developer experience and reliability. At more than 250 million monthly active users, Canva's hardest reliability problems increasingly span systems, teams and organisational boundaries. Production Engineering exists to help keep Canva reliable, efficient and predictable as that complexity grows. It's primarily a software engineering function. Rather than operating systems from the sidelines or papering over problems with process, Production Engineers solve operational challenges through design and code. The function is split into two teams: Embedded and Core. Embedded works directly alongside teams across Canva on targeted, long-running engineering engagements. Engineers typically work in small groups, bringing Production Engineering expertise directly into some of Canva's most important technical problem spaces. Core owns Production Engineering's services and works on broader, more federated problems that span multiple groups. Sometimes work discovered through an Embedded engagement comes back into Core, where the teams can work together to turn a targeted solution into capability that benefits more of Canva. Core is designed to operate as a larger, more focused team than the distributed Embedded model, with a smaller number of shared goals and a strong emphasis on engineering execution. Because Production Engineering is still taking shape, both teams are helping define what the function becomes: where it can have the greatest impact, how it partners with other teams, and how individual wins become lasting engineering capability across Canva. Engineering Manager - SRE » Hawthorn, Boroondara Area - The role and its impact We are seeking an Engineering Manager for our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. In this leadership role, you will own and drive our reliability programme, focusing on high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) testing and incident management across our Asia-Pacific and EMEA regions. You will lead a growing team through a critical period of expansion, building a culture where reliability is woven into the DNA of the business, not treated as an afterthought. Your work will have significant impact on Xero's customer experience and operational resilience. By partnering with platform teams, observability specialists, and cross-functional stakeholders, you will close systemic reliability gaps and help reduce customer-detected incidents by 70–80%. You will also shape how our engineering culture evolves, mentoring engineers and fostering an environment where thoughtful problem-solving and ownership are valued. The team and how they connect The Australia-based SRE team currently comprises two skilled engineers and is growing to at least four by year-end. The team operates collaboratively with Cloud Engineering, Observability, Database Reliability Engineering, and Shared Services to elevate Xero's reliability posture across our platform. You will report to the Head of Engineering for Reliability and partner closely with a US-based Engineering Manager who owns incident management for the EMEA/US time zone, ensuring seamless global coverage. Together, you will run Xero's reliability programme, working in lockstep to deliver measurable improvements in how the business detects, responds to, and prevents incidents. The team is currently working on • Building and maturing a continuous HA/DR testing cadence, moving from ad hoc to reliable weekly execution • Establishing and optimising incident command protocols across APAC and EMEA regions, with a focus on time-to-mitigation against clear targets • Closing cross-team reliability gaps identified between Observability, Tooling, and product engineering through structured collaboration • Growing the team from two to four engineers whilst maintaining high incident response standards and driving a reliability-first mindset Where and how you can work We have no standing office attendance requirement; we expect you to join us in person approximately once per quarter. We offer the flexibility to work in a way that suits your rhythm and your team's needs, whilst maintaining the collaboration and connection that makes us stronger together. Here are some of the things we are looking for • You bring proven SRE or infrastructure leadership experience, ideally managing incident command at scale, with a demonstrable track record of building or maturing HA/DR programmes. • You possess strong software engineering skills and are comfortable diving into code to solve reliability problems, not just process; fluency with AI-assisted tooling is a core capability, not a nice-to-have. • Your agency and curiosity shine through—you think and act beyond the job description, bias toward independent problem-solving over waiting for direction, and bring a genuine enthusiasm for lifting reliability across the business. • You excel at stakeholder management and can influence peer teams without formal authority, forging durable relationships across regions, platforms, and functions with both conviction and empathy. • You are comfortable operating across time zones and managing distributed teams with ease, bringing calm and clarity to high-pressure incident response moments. • You care about growing and developing engineers. You will shape the team's culture through structured onboarding, regular one-to-ones, and mentorship that helps people thrive and stay. Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team. • Fri, 04 SepXero

Engineering Manager » Gold Coast Region, Queensland - Engineering Manager | Digital Marketplace Gold Coast | Hybrid | Relocation Assistance Available Sometimes an Engineering Manager role means inheriting 30 people, sitting in meetings all day and slowly forgetting how software actually gets built. This isn't that. Refactor is exclusively partnering with a household Australian digital marketplace to find an Engineering Manager who can take genuine ownership of its technology and engineering function. You'll inherit a small, experienced engineering team and a successful platform that's entering its next stage of evolution. There's legacy technology to progressively modernise, newer architecture to introduce and plenty of opportunity to decide where engineering can make the biggest commercial impact. This isn't a rebuild for the sake of a rebuild. They want someone pragmatic enough to know what to change, what to buy, what to build and what to leave alone. That's a key theme from the brief. What you'll own You'll take responsibility for engineering execution across the platform, working closely with Product, Sales, commercial stakeholders and senior technology leaders. You'll be: Leading an established, distributed engineering team Driving the progressive modernisation of the platform Translating commercial priorities into sensible engineering decisions Working across modern web technologies, cloud and APIs Owning architecture, reliability, security and engineering quality Managing integrations across multiple business-critical platforms Working closely with Product to turn ideas into shipped outcomes Bringing a clear engineering perspective to senior stakeholders The remit is deliberately broad. They need someone capable of moving between architecture, people leadership, delivery and commercial conversations without disappearing into any one of them. What's in it for you? Recognised as one of Australia's Best Workplaces, a Family Friendly Workplace and a WORK180 endorsed employer 24 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers, 4 weeks for secondary carers, 6 weeks paid gender affirming care leave Genuine relocation support if the Gold Coast lifestyle is calling Hybrid set up 2 days in office out of Brisbane or Gold Coast - 3 flexible days Regular hackathons and a real learning budget, not just the promise of one Who we're looking for: You're likely an Engineering Manager, Technical Lead or senior engineering leader from a product-led technology business. Experience across marketplaces, e-commerce, B2B SaaS or another customer-facing digital platform would translate particularly well. You'll need strong technical credibility across modern web engineering and cloud, but we're not hunting for the world's most enthusiastic architecture astronaut. Commercial judgement matters. Sometimes the perfect technical solution isn't the right business solution. You'll know the difference. You'll also be comfortable inheriting an experienced team. This isn't about arriving with a new org chart on day one. It's about listening, earning credibility and then helping a good team get better. Why consider it? You get something that's becoming increasingly rare: Actual ownership. An established digital product. Real customers. Real revenue. An experienced team. But still small and autonomous enough that the decisions you make will genuinely matter. Add a significant platform modernisation journey, the backing and resources of a much larger technology environment, plus the Gold Coast lifestyle and relocation assistance , and there's plenty to get stuck into. Software Engineering Manager » Surry Hills, Sydney - This is a full time role with hybrid working, 3 days a week in our Sydney office (Surry Hills). Everlab is an Australian healthtech startup building the platform to look after people's health for their entire lives. It's not just an app, it's the infrastructure connecting every available healthcare service to give you comprehensive data on your health and provide personalised care. We've had a 23x increase in revenue since June 2025 and recently announced our $65m Series A round, making this an exciting time to join Everlab as we expand globally. You'll lead a single squad, owning its delivery, its health and its people, and you'll do that through a durable system rather than through heroics, in partnership with a Tech Lead who owns the squad's technical direction. This is a foundational hire as Everlab introduces engineering management, so alongside running your own squad you'll have real scope to help define how the function works, from the operating rhythm to career expectations to how we hire and grow engineers as the team scales. Day to day that means planning and unblocking so the squad ships predictably, setting goals and an operating rhythm with your Tech Lead, and keeping the “why” legible so everyone understands the reasoning behind the work in front of them. You'll be technically credible enough to engage in design decisions and surface risk without needing to out-code the team, and close enough to the work to recognise when a delivery problem is really a technical one. People management sits squarely with you: performance, careers, hiring, retention, and the difficult conversations, handled early and honestly rather than left to fester. You'll grow engineers deliberately, sponsoring the people ready to stretch and coaching the ones who are stuck, and you'll make effective use of AI the squad's default way of working, as genuine everyday practice rather than box-ticking. We're building in regulated healthcare, so privacy and safety are part of how your squad works rather than a step at the end. What You Will Do Own the squad's delivery and health: planning, unblocking, and an operating rhythm that ships predictably, with the system doing the work rather than individual heroics. Own people management: performance, careers, hiring, retention, and the difficult conversations, handled early and honestly. Set the squad's goals and rhythm: work with the Tech Lead to define what the squad is aiming at and how it operates, and keep the “why” legible to everyone in it. Grow engineers deliberately: sponsor the people who are ready to stretch, coach the ones who are stuck, and make career progression something engineers can see rather than guess at. Make effective use of AI the squad's default: build genuine everyday practice into how the team works, not box-ticking, and share what works with the wider engineering group. What We're Looking For Engineering management experience: you've managed software engineering teams with genuine ownership of both delivery and people growth, in startup or scale up company environments. Predictable delivery: you have a track record of shipping predictably through process and system rather than heroics, and you can show us what you put in place and why it held. Technically credible: you can engage in design decisions and surface risk with your team without needing to out-code them, and you know when a delivery problem is really a technical one. Strong people-management craft: honest feedback, real coaching, and hiring you're accountable for, including the conversations most managers put off. Takes healthcare seriously: you understand the responsibility that comes with building in a regulated healthcare environment, and you treat privacy and safety as part of how the squad works. Bonus points: experience introducing or maturing engineering management practice in a scaling organisation, and familiarity with our stack of TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, React and GCP. Why It's Great to Work at Everlab Do work that matters: we're building the future of preventive health. Use your skills to prevent disease, improve access to personalised care, and reduce pressure on the health system. Work-life flexibility: hybrid working with 3 days in the office, plus flexibility to manage life beyond the 9 to 5 when it matters. Experience Everlab as a customer: full access to the Everlab health program, provided after successfully passing probation. Share in our success: Employee Share Option Plan included as part of your total remuneration. We grow together. People you'll love working with: a welcoming, mission-driven team of smart, thoughtful people doing meaningful work. • Wed, 02 SepEverlab

Hear it straight from the team : People of Sitemate ⭐ Read what our customers say: G2 Crowd , Trust Radius Team Offsites: 2022 , 2023 , 2024 , 2025 What this role looks like at Sitemate You'll have direct reports. You'll run 1:1s, progress Sitemate Development Plans and competency matrix levels, set goals, give feedback, and handle performance issues directly. You'll also plan sprint capacity, make sure work is broken into milestones with estimates, track progress, and surface risk before it becomes a problem. Whilst you won’t be leading a feature or on critical path tickets, our engineering managers still actively contributing code and shipping improvements to our customers - this is not a hands off role. You should be able to follow a design discussion, sense when an estimate is off, and know when "it's nearly done" isn't. You are not expected to own technical architecture, but you are expected to know when to pull the Tech Lead in. Two shifts are defining what engineering management looks like here: Forward Deployed Engineering. Teams work closer to customers and ship in tighter loops. Your job is to make sure engineers have real customer signal in front of them, and that the process supports fast iteration rather than adding ceremony to it. Agentic Engineering. AI is changing what a team of a given size can deliver, which changes how you plan, estimate, and sequence work. You'll need to hold the process standards that keep quality high as throughput goes up, in partnership with the Tech Lead who sets the technical bar. Day-to-Day Plan and manage sprint or cycle capacity, making sure engineers have clear, well-sequenced work broken into milestones with estimates. Track delivery progress and surface risk or slippage early, rather than waiting for things to go wrong. Act as the primary escalation path when engineers are stuck, and remove blockers before they stall delivery. Run regular 1:1s, progress SDPs and competency matrix levels, set goals, and give consistent feedback. Manage performance issues directly and constructively. Deliver code yourself. Not as the bulk of your week, but consistently enough to stay sharp and to keep credibility with your team. Hold the line on engineering process standards such as test coverage, PR quality, and deployment practices, in partnership with the Tech Lead. Communicate delivery status to stakeholders proactively, and act as the focal point for communication into the engineering team. Stay aligned with the PDM on priorities, sequencing, and any scope or delivery trade-offs. Escalate to the PGM when decisions or resources sit beyond the team's control. ⚡ Challenges Shared accountability. Delivery is shared with the PDM and technical direction sits with the Tech Lead. You'll get results through influence and close collaboration far more than through direct control. People and delivery pull in opposite directions. Some weeks the sprint wins, some weeks the person does. Judging which is a large part of the job. Pace. Fast-Tracked is a real operating value, so you'll need to balance speed with quality and sustainable delivery for your team. Distributed teams across Australia, UK, Southeast Asia, Brazil, Canada. Time zones and async communication are part of the role, not an edge case. Organisational maturity. Engineering leadership, frameworks, and career ladders are still being established, so you'll be building the plane while flying it. ✅ Who This Role is For You've managed engineers before, or you've been a Tech Lead or Senior engineer already doing the job unofficially and want to make it official. You get more satisfaction from a team shipping well than from being the one who shipped it. You have difficult conversations early rather than letting things drift. You still write code and want to keep doing it alongside leading a team You're comfortable owning an outcome jointly with someone else and not needing the final say on everything. You're drawn to real-world impact. Our users build wind farms, highways, and mines in 100 countries. You want to shape how an engineering org works through our next phase of growth, not inherit someone else's playbook. Who This Role is Not For You want to own architecture and technical direction. That sits with the Tech Lead here. If that's what you're after, the Engineering Tech Lead role is the better fit. You want coding to remain the majority of your job. You'll still ship code here, but it isn't the bulk of the role. You've moved fully out of engineering. Coding is a reduced part of this job, not an absent one. You want full Engineering Manager scope with unilateral control over people, process, delivery, and technology. Ours is deliberately narrower. You manage from a dashboard. This role needs someone in the detail with their team. You avoid performance conversations or route them straight to HR. You want a mature engineering org with a VP of Engineering, established ladders, and defined management frameworks already in place. We're building that, which is the opportunity if you want to shape it and a mismatch if you need it to already exist. Skills & Tools Must Have: Experience managing or leading a team of engineers, with direct reports or clear equivalent responsibility Strong delivery management across capacity planning, work breakdown, estimation, tracking, and early risk escalation Current, hands-on coding ability. You'll still be delivering code, and understand best practices Hands-on background in Javascript / TypeScript, Node.js, Angular or React, MongoDB Track record of growing engineers through feedback, goal setting, and career development Willingness to handle underperformance directly and constructively Comfort operating in shared accountability with product counterparts Nice to Have: Experience in a scale-up or high-growth product environment Experience managing distributed or multi-timezone teams Experience improving engineering process such as sprint cadence, release process, or on-call Practical experience with AI-assisted development workflows Essential Tools: Jira or an equivalent planning and tracking tool Confluence or equivalent documentation practice AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) Bonus Tools: AWS Observability tooling (Clickstack, Datadog, Bugsnag, Sentry) PLEASE Note: We hire directly and don’t work with agencies • Fri, 28 AugSitemate
