About the Team Anduril’s Manufacturing team is producing the next generation of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles globally at rate. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns production readiness and process engineering across the Undersea Dominance product range — from core vehicle platform to specialised mission payloads, spanning mechanical and electrical hardware build through to full system integration & test. About the Job You will own the manufacturing CI program and the methodologies that make production processes measurably better - cycle time reduction, line efficiency, PFMEA, value stream mapping, Kaizen events, and the metrics that track whether improvements stick. You will own the equipment and process SOPs that operators reference from product work instructions — the documents that capture how to safely and correctly operate production equipment, from cranes and robotic positioners and vac-purge rigs. You will also be the ME team’s primary interface with mechanical design for production equipment: specifying requirements for tooling and fixtures, working with the design engineer to develop them, and verifying they actually solve the problem on the floor. The right person is comfortable influencing without authority and can work closely with SC and Quality assessing supplier manufacturing capability, conducting on-site process audits, and driving supplier process improvements so that parts arrive at the quality and rate we need. Partner with MEs/QEs and production techs on root-cause analysis for complex or cross-functional defects. Own PFMEA development and cross-functional facilitation — bring production failure-mode insight from CI data into the PFMEA, and ensure Control Plans are linked and current. Author and maintain equipment and process SOPs — the operational documents referenced by product work instructions that define how to set up, operate, and verify production equipment (crane operations, robotic positioners, AGVs, vacuum and purge procedures, and similar). Be the interface between mechanical design and the production floor for tooling, fixtures, and production equipment — define requirements based on process needs, work with the mechanical design engineer to develop solutions, and own implementation and verification on the floor. Support capital equipment justification and business cases linked to rate ramp and automation needs. Work closely with QA and SC teams on supplier industrialisation — assess supplier manufacturing capability, facilitate Supplier Production Readiness Reviews, and conduct on-site process audits for critical and sole-source suppliers. Work with design engineers to embed Design for Manufacturing (DFM) features and principles in product design. Capture lessons learned from production and supplier events and actively disseminate them into NPI programs so the same failure mode is not designed back in. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 8 years in manufacturing or process engineering, with demonstrated experience in continuous improvement / Lean, DFX methodology, PFMEA and supplier industrialisation within a complex electromechanical production environment. Job Overview: We are seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to join Anduril, working in a cutting-edge start-up environment to advance the state-of-the-possible in subsea robotics. The Manufacturing Test Engineer will be charged with developing and implementing high-fidelity, automated test processes on both the component and system level. About the Team Anduril’s Manufacturing team is producing the next generation of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles globally at rate. The Manufacturing Engineering team owns production readiness and process engineering across the Undersea Dominance product range — from core vehicle platform to specialised mission payloads, spanning mechanical and electrical hardware build through to full system integration & test. About the Job You will own the test software, automation and tooling that proves every Dive-XL vehicle works before it leaves the building — the Python frameworks that drive instruments and vehicle hardware, the operator-facing GUIs that make complex test sequences safe and repeatable under production pressure, and the interlocks that protect people and product when the system is commanding real high-voltage DC. You will also own the infrastructure underneath: NixOS-based station builds, test result flow into MES, and the configuration management that keeps a fleet of test stations reproducible and rollback-safe. What You'll Do Build a broad range of test capabilities across the manufacturing value stream - PCBA bring up, electrical boxes/bottles bring-up, system level checkouts and acceptance testing to key component level in process validation. Develop, execute, and manage test eco-system to de-risk hardware and ensure product meets target reliability levels and ultimate design intent. Perform hands-on and data-driven root cause analysis of electromechanical subsystems utilizing structured problem solving methodologies. Design, implement and maintain semi-automated testing equipment/protocols for subsystem characterization and testing. Diagnose production test issues hands-on as fist point of contact for test technicians. Isolate the failure mode, work with Electrical Design and Software when escalation is needed. Collaborate with the design/systems team throughout product development cycles to perform risk assessments, maintain ownership of test deployment activities in production, oversee technician training, burn down bug fixes/improvements as needed. Produce and maintain testing logs/data, develop library of error codes with troubleshooting logic/diagrams for fast issue resolution. Generate controlled test instructions that can be easily followed by technician team in MES or other test execution systems. Optimize test design and execution of full system “end of line” factory acceptance test (FAT) of AUVs Design and execution of PCBA and electrical system components with hands on testing and rework as necessary REQUIRED QUALIFIACTIONS Degree in Software, Computer, Electrical, Mechatronic or related field, or equivalent work experience Experience in hardware testing and automated test systems (LabVIEW, Test Stand, etc.) Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, SHELL, or others Experience with computer hardware communication protocols: USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, PCIe, HDMI, CAN, etc 3 years of experience in a relevant field, preferably test design of electro-mechanical hardware in a manufacturing environment Are well versed with complex electromechanical systems and are passionate about understanding what it takes to make them work reliably Have experience developing full system test plans and know how to execute them on fast-paced product development timelines Have experience with programming/testing a wide range of sensors, actuators, and electrical components Can prototype and run your own tests, from experimental setup to hardware and software implementation Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government NV2 Security Clearance (Australian citizen). More than 3 years’ experience in the testing of mechanical and electronic systems in a reliability driven environment, such as product testing, qualification, or development (any prior work with either Optical or Medical Devices would be highly regarded). Experience with environmental and accelerated lifetime testing. Experience with regulatory testing and of international testing standards and specifications i.e. ISO/IEC, ISTA, etc. Ability to operate effectively within a Quality Management regime, under standards such as ISO-9001 or ISO-13485. Self-driven, reliable, and responsible; willing to take ownership. Can plan and prioritize effectively to meet project milestones. Good oral and written communication skills; can work both independently, and with other cross-functional team members, external test-houses, and regulatory bodies. Desirable Skills: Experience in the testing of complex mechanical and electronic systems in a reliability driven environment, such as product testing, qualification, or development. Working knowledge of materials science (composite materials, elasticity of solids, thermal expansion coefficient, thermal conductivity). Experience with adhesive bonding (e.g. epoxy, silicone). Literacy with Solidworks 3D and can read drawings of opto- and electro- mechanical systems. Optics or Medical device experience. Knowledge of LabVIEW or Python programming for control and automated data acquisition.
